What’s this project all about?

The idea for this project is to raise awareness and funds for homelessness in Ireland, however rather than the messaging coming from us, we want the story to come from those who have experienced homelessness themselves, through the medium of photography.

To achieve this we gave a disposable camera to all participants and asked them to take photos that represent ‘their experience of homelessness’.  We held our first month-long exhibition in Powerscourt Town Centre, Dublin 2 from May 5th 2016. Six months later the exhibition continued outside on the railings of St. Stephen’s Green (opposite the Shelbourne Hotel) for 2 weeks in November/December 2016.  All prints are on sale here on our website to raise funds for the Dublin Simon Community.

Lucy Ryan and Lynsey Browne conceived and spearheaded the project, but couldn’t have done it without the huge help of a number of people and organisations. You can view our sponsors here theinsightproject.ie/our-sponsors.

Everyone who has taken part in this project is either currently, or has recently experienced homelessness. Our photographers are at various stages in their journey, some are rough sleepers, some live in hostels and some have now secured longer-term accommodation.

We recruited participants through the Dublin Simon Community, the Capuchin Day Centre and directly from the streets.

Nope! This project is run independently in Ireland and independent of similar projects around the world.

For every print sold, we deduct the postage and packaging fee (so we can ship you your picture!), all profits thereafter are donated directly to The Dublin Simon Community to help combat homelessness in Ireland.

We respect the privacy and choice of our participants, some are very happy to feature their name, and some would rather use a pseudonym or remain anonymous.

We aim to post your print with 2 working days of ordering. But it’s just the two of us and we have both have other full-time jobs so bear with us as some orders might take a little longer than others : )

Not online unfortunately, but if you would like a framed photo you can email us at info@theinsightproject.ie and we can organise one for you.

If you would rather get your own frame, the prints are all A3 size so you should  be able to find a suitable frame easily enough.

Absolutely, we understand that not everyone will need or want to purchase a picture.  If you would still like to support the project however, you can do so by clicking here to make a donation. Your donation, no matter how small will help combat homelessness in Ireland.
