In memory of Willie Bermingham

“In memory of Willie Bermingham”

Where was this photo taken?
“Kilmainham, Dublin 8.”

What does this photo mean to you?
“Bermingham Place is the housing complex for elderly homeless people.  It bears Willie’s name, who was a Fireman, who discovered the remains of older – people who had died destitute and alone, suffering in conditions of cold, hunger, loneliness, depression and illness.

In the cold winter of 1976 he organised a group of volunteers and started a building campaign which created the complex in Kilmainham.  Willie Bermingham died in April 1990.  He was only 48 years of age.”
